Deborah Janelle was born in Miami, Florida and grew up in the western suburb of Hialeah which at that time was right on the very edge of the Everglades. Tropical foliage and flowers along with the bright bold colors worn by the diverse ethnic populations influenced her preference of color in her artwork. She is now lives in the Seacoast area of New Hampshire to be closer to family and family roots.

When asked as a child what she wanted to be when she grew up she would say, "I want to be an artist!". Not many parents of the post WWII generation would support that career goal for a female baby boomer nor were they encouraged to attend college.  Later in life when she became an empty nester, she enrolled in the community college and began working toward her Associates Degree in Fine Art and graduated in 2012 with High Honors. 

Exploring many different mediums and subjects after post graduate years, she primarily explored mixed media. Over the past year she also started working in watercolor due to its portable nature. She usually works in a particular medium for an extended period of time exploring different ways to manipulate the medium and how it can be used with different subjects until exhausted, then will pick up a different medium to explore. She has also done many commissioned pieces from murals, guitars, vehicles, landscapes and portraits. For the past year she has been exploring the many uses of fluorescent paint in all mediums and began printing her own paper to use in collage. 

Her plans for the next year are to spend three months on the west coast of Mexico in Puerto Vallarta learning about the art and history of the area and studying with the many art programs available in Puerto Vallarta. 

Deborah also loves teaching art to private students and is a regular instructor at the Seacoast Art Spot in Portsmouth, NH.
